Gov. Kay Ivey on Tuesday issued a long-expected call for a special session to begin Wednesday to consider the allocation of the state's share of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Following a broad consensus among leaders, the proclamation calls for the funds to be used on broadband; water and sewer infrastructure and compensation for health care workers. The proclamation also calls for the use of the funds for telemedicine, replenishment of the state's unemployment fund, and reimbursing counties for housing state inmates.
